What is the best filter for the central ac unit? I hear u need to turn on the ac unit in order for the filter to collect the particles. Is this so?

Are there good quiet air purifiers that I can buy?
Now that it is spring, my allergies are getting worse. Does anyone recommend a good air purifier? My biggest concern is the noise level (and of course how well it removes particles).
